Start in Awapuni Sport Stadium. Start / Finish
Run through the main entance gateway on to Centennial Marine Drive 01
Turn right along Centennial Marine Drive on the “closed” section of road to Pacific Street 02
Turn right into Pacific Street and turn right again into Awapuni Road 03
Continue down Awapuni Road and turn right again into Stanley Road 04
Run along Stanley Road and turn right onto Centennial Marine Drive 05
Continue along Centennial Marine Drive going past the Awapuni Stadium Entrance. 01 Stay on the “right hand side” (RHS) of Centennial Marine Drive.
Just before the new Marine Navigation Beacon 06 turn right (as directed) through a roadside gate onto farmland.
Cross the paddock directly towards the concrete World War II Bunker 07. Turn left onto the stopbank that follows the Kopututea Stream though the Arai Farm. There are gateways along the stopbank. Continue along the stopbank (alongside the “back” Awapuni Road) past the Manager’s House to the stockyards 08
At the stockyards turn right though the roadside gateway to the “back” Awapuni Road. Immediately turn left though a large gravelled area which leads onto MacDonald Road. Run west along MacDonald Road over the railway siding at the Juken NZ Ltd. Mill (RHS). Continue to the Willows Road, Dunstan Road junction 09
Turn right into Willows Road and run for just over 900 metres down to the marked “U” turn 10
Return to the Willows Road, Dunstan Road junction at MacDonald Road) 09
Follow Dunstan Road past the Ovation NZ Ltd. Meatworks to it’s end at a farm gate 11 go straightahead though the gateway at the stock race on to a formed farm track.
At the Waipaoa stopbank 11A go through the end gateway. Turn left and climb up onto the stopbank. Climb over the fence onto the Gisborne to Wairoa Railway Line just before it’s crossing the Waipaoa River 11B
Climb over an other fence and then follow along the stopbank for 1.2 kilometres towards the coast to as far as the Trig Station APB3 12
Here, at the end of Centennial Marine Drive is the Relay Change Over Point between Stages 1 and 2 .
The course is then flagged to follow the sand dune track along Centennial Marine Drive for approximately 2.5 kilometres, to as far as the beach access at Pāokahu 13
As directed turn right onto Oneroa Beach. Follow along the beach towards Gisborne for just over 4.5 kilometres; going past the new Marine Navigation Beacon, Pacific Street to the beach at the access way from the Millenium Wall Carpark 14
Here, on the beach adjacent to the stadium, is the Relay Change Over Point between Stages 2 and 3.
Staying on the beach run for another 2 kilometres past Midway {Public Toilet} and Waikanae. {Public Toilet}
Leave the beach at “The Cut” 15 near to the “Young Nick’s” Statue as directed.
Run upriver along the Riverbank Walk / Cycle Way over the Waikanae Creek Bridge 16 along to the Watties Jetty 17 and on to the Railway Bridge over the Turanganui River 18
Walk across the Railway Bridge – a course marshal will indicate where you can recommence running. 19
Follow the railway lines behind the Tatapouri Sport Fishing Club and cross the Esplanade 20 into lower Crawford Road at the Soho Restaurant. Run up Crawford Road, turn left up the walk / cycle ramp before turning right onto Rakiatane Road 21
Run along the footpath on Rakiatane Road towards Kaiti Beach. Stay on the RHS of the Rakaiatane and Kaiti Beach Roads, pass the Cook Landing Site Monument (RHS) and the Log Processing Yard until reaching Kaiti Beach. 22
Run onto the beach at the carpark. The Gisborne Yacht Club Ramp 23 {Public Toilet} is the last road access point for 3.5 kilometes until Sponge Bay is reached along the coast.
Slow down and take great care in stepping across a 200 metre section of rounded papa rocks 24 around the first coastal headland. 25
Continue along some small beaches until reaching the rock causeway to Tuamotu Island. 26
Again, slow down and take great care in stepping across a 200 metre section of rounded papa rocks before leaving the shore. 27
There is a very short climb up to an undulating 300m section of “flagged” stock track (used by surfers) enabling runners to reach the Sponge Bay Carpark. 28 {Public Toilets}
Run back along Sponge Bay Road to it’s junction with Wainui Road. 29
This is the Relay Change Over Point between Stages 3 and 4.
Turn right through the gateways into the Defence Force Rifle Range. Follow a formed farm track for 2 kilometes to reach the top end of Wallis Road. There are several gateways along this section. Pass the rifle range (LHS) and a raupo pond.(RHS) 30
Run uphill and bypass Ngata Pa Hill (LHS) 31
Turn right and follow the track down to the road end 32
Run down Wallis Road, turn left down Norwood Road to the Endcliffe Road / Titirangi Drive junction. 33
Run up Titirangi Drive to the summit of Titirangi. 34
Run down Queens Drive to Pohoorawiri Marae. 35
Turn left onto Ranfurly Street.
Turn left again onto Crawford Road. 36
Cross Rakaiatane Road 37 and run back down the walk / cycle ramp onto Crawford Road, past Soho Restaurant. 20
Cross the Esplanade and run back along the railway tracks around the habour. Just past the Tatapouri Sport Fishing Club 38 take the walk / cycle way alongside Wainui Road.
Be aware that only the Quarter Marathon Runners continue back over the Railway Bridge.
Just before the Gladstone Road Bridge 39 veer left to go under the bridge. Continue (upriver) on the walk /cycle way to Rutene Road. 40
Turn left to cross the William Pettie Bridge. 41
At Ormond Road angle across the Marina {Public Toilets} taking the footpaths past the Gisborne District Council Offices to the steps at Fitzherbert Street. 42
Turn left to cross Peel Street Bridge on it’s LHS. 43
At Palmerston Road veer left to follow the River Bank Walk / Cycle way downriver to the railway bridge at Childer’s Road. 18
Stay on the Riverbank Walk / Cycle Way and run towards Waikanae Beach, back past the Watties Jetty 17 over the Waikanae Creek Bridge 16
On the Oneroa Walk / Cycle Way bypass the Waikanae Motor Camp (RHS)
Pass the Waikanae Surf Club / Grey Steet 43
Stay on the walk / cycle way to it’s end 44 just before the Midway Surf Club.
Turn left onto Centennial Marine Drive, stay on the left hand side of the road until reaching Stanley Road. 45
Continue along the next section of Centennial Marine Drive “closed to traffic” until reaching the stadium gateway. 01
Enter the stadium and complete an anticlockwise circuit of the Athletic Track to the finish. Start / Finish

Go through the gateway and run up the main Kaiti Hill Track. At the hard right bend immediately above the “Works War Monument there will be a course marshal 47
Take the level track to the left of the set of steps there, along to the first carpark up Kaiti Hill on Queen’s Drive. 48
Turn left from the carpark, down Queen’s Road past Pohoorawiri Marae. 35
Turn left onto Ranfurly Street.
Turn left again onto Crawford Road. 36 Cross Rakaiatane Road 37 and run back down the walk / cycle ramp onto Crawford Avenue, past Soho Restaurant. 20
Cross the Esplanade and follow back along the railway lines.
Just past the Tatapouri Sport Fishing Club be aware that the Marathon and Half Marathon Runners will veer left onto the Wainui Road footpath to go around the Marina Circuit. 38
The Quarter Marathon Runners continue along the railway lines to the railway bridge. 19
